I have always taken care of myself, fat or not - my personal and work life inspired me to take extra care of the way I look on the outside, as well as the philosophy I live by, self-love and self-respect is fundamental first, before loving and respecting anyone else...(my mum always, in her roundabout way, instilled this in her kids)
So for years now, I have paid particular attention to my hair, my nails, my manicures and pedicures, my skin, during my obese days too.
Over the recent past, my hairdresser extraordinaire who has been doing my hair weekly, for the past 13 years or so, commented on how my hair has a natural shine, which she has noticed from the time that I began my newest journey. At the time I attributed it to the products that I use for my hair, which by hell or high water, get them couriered to me from a very far away land. I suppose pampering myself during my obese days set the tone for maintaining the same regimen during this journey. That is something that has also made me feel good about myself and has boosted my self-esteem in ways that I too find it difficult to believe.
These are some of my hair pics over the years, hair that I am very proud of!
I guess I have been blessed with good skin genes too (I'm proudly of Indian descent) and have never had a skin problem except the dark patches caused by my high blood pressure and the marks of high cholesterol around my eyes. My twice daily skin beauty regime and the fact that I have no use for concealers or foundation to damage my skin, really works well in ensuring that my skin breathes properly and has a natural radiance. Amazingly, over the past four months, the natural glow has increased and my skin has never been brighter than as it is now.
My former colleagues used to call me the trendsetter, in particular, my assistant who always checked my nails on a Monday morning to see if the nail varnish colour had changed. I inspired many who didn't give a second thought of adding a dash of colour to their nails or even buffing them for that matter, to become trendsetters too. I proudly continue with my manicurist visits, every 2 or three weeks to keep my finger and toe needs accustomed to the treatment that they have always loved.
Besides the aesthetic and outside beauty enhancing naturally, I am amazed at the other benefits that weightloss has given me. My dearest husband complimented me the other day, or maybe it was just an observation of my sleeping patterns. Firstly, that I sleep like a baby these days, enjoying my slumber, and secondly, that he hasn't heard me snore in a long while. That was really music to my ears, the snorning part, lol, as even when I fell asleep, sitting up watching a TV programme, visitors noticed my heavy wood-cutting sounds!
The feeling of effervescence and complete joie de vivre is amazing, I am energised now, like never before, a bouncy gummi bear, high on gummy berry juice! While I am cautiously optimistic that I can very well live the rest of my life this way, I am always mindful of the way I treat myself, always remembering that my body is my temple.....
I am looking forward to the no-snoring days too! And better sleep and more energy.
ReplyDeleteIndeed Tam! Hubby literally has to shake me awake in the mornings these days, following sleepless early mornings pre-weightloss. You're going to be at this space soon-soon! :)
