Preservative Free, Sugar Free and Sweetner Free Tomato Sauce / Ketchup

Ingredients

1 small onion diced
2 green / granny smith apples, peeled and diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ginger  powder
2 pinches clove powder
2 tblsp apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup water
180g tomato paste, sugar and preservative free

.
Here's How
  • Placed all the ingredients in a slow cooker and stir to combine.  Set the slow cooker to low and cook for 4 hours
  • Allow the mixture to cool slightly then pour into a food processor or high-speed blender and blend until smooth Note:  When blending or processing warm foods, do not overfill the container, as the heat will cause the contents to expand and they may splatter.
  • Once blended, place the tomato sauce / ketchup in a glass container and allow it to come to room temperature before refrigerating
  • The tomato sauce / ketchup should last for several weeks or more in the refrigerator.  If you notice a change in colour or smell or see any mold growing, toss it and make a new batch.

  2. Hey Lana, sorry only seeing your question now! I think red apples will add a natural sweetness to the sauce, which could be a good thing? I've made it three times since as orders for othersand used green apples each time. Worth a try with red apples. Let me know how it turns out! :)
