Sometimes losing weight can seem like the hardest thing in the world. Even if at first I was so motivated and excited about losing weight, life happened along the way which left me feeling discouraged, frustrated and ready to give up on my goals. I am at a stage of total loss in continuing. How are you managing to lose the weight and get steps closer to your goals?
This question was posed to me recently by someone through my google+page and it's a question taken from the long list of questions posed to me and an apt one to blog about at this stage of my journey, 11 months along....
The picture above speaks to me in volumes, speaks to where I come from and to where I am going in my journey to the betterment of me, holistically. I didn't enter this life journey without fore-thought or goals and plans...or dreams for that matter. It was well thought out, well planned, well-dreamed and well discussed with those that mattered to me and it has made me WELL! 11 months in, I am the "wellest" I have been in at least 18 years of my life. It's the execution of those dreams, goals, plans that have actioned me into taking charge of my ill-healthed life and have helped me heal both physically and psychologically.
I took a good look at my physical changes recently and how these are informing my mind and my journey and the lives of those that matter to me and it's these very changes that are motivating me continue.
My advice to this person was multi-fold but the heart of the matter was mental planning and preparation - getting their mind space to work for them. It's about continual strategising with the Self to allow the body and mind to conform to changes, and revisiting these changes and planning for the next round. So while long term goals are the ultimate, short term goal setting which offer greater successes, maximises the attainment of your ultimate goal. This is the manner that my goal setting has worked for me. Using a known and reinforcable technique that has been applicable to many in all aspects of our lives - mostly work goal setting though but turning it around to goal setting in my personal life. I keep my goals SMART but simple using various methods, but the illustration below is part of my routine which I revisit at least once every two weeks.
My biggest challenge at the start of my journey is now my smallest - odd how giving up processed bread that ruled my life is now the least of my setbacks. The hidden sugars challenge turn around being my second achievable in my set of SMART goals. I keep and kept them:
SPECIFIC - No additives or alternatives for 120 days, eating specifically what I was allowed to per my eating plan
MEASURABLE - I ate according to my satiety levels, never over or under eating
ACTION - I made this work for me and actioned myself into action to make my goals possible and I also took action to get into physical action
REALISTIC & RELEVANT - I aligned my actions with my goals, making it about me for me by me
TIME BASED - I was time-bound by 30 days per goal, short term actioning towards my long term dreams...
And I continually tell myself.....
Are you unfolding YOUR dreams, achieving YOUR Goals and are YOU Taking action?
Everyday you have the option to make a new beginning - the past is behind you with the setting of the days' sun and with the dawn of a new day comes renewed hope to make all your dreams come true....what are YOU waiting for?
