~Sleekgeek Summer Body Challenge - 6 week Check In and some more...~

Six weeks ago to this day, I entered into the Sleekgeek Summer Body Challenge, http://www.sleekgeek.co.za/sb/, to motivate me in my journey to all things wonderfully healthy and to lose the extra pounds to lessen the load on my various lifestyle-induced chronic illnesses.  I entered with much trepidation but as the days turned into weeks, I realized that I was thoroughly enjoying the challenge of eating clean and working out at gym.  The challenge, 8 weeks long, requires participants to check in at regular intervals to record the progress made over the 8 week period.  Today marks the end of 6 weeks and the home-stretch is upon me.  I was pleasantly amazed with my six week results.  The weight loss is steady but the centimeter loss during this period overwhelmed me - a huge 50cm loss which had me giddy when I was doing the calculations.  This morning actually glossed over in a big blur as all I could think about was FIFTY CENTIMETRES GONE in 6 weeks!

I actually started thinking about all the "good' that has come of this:

  • insulin now completely stopped
  • on my way to halving my daily tablet intake
  • improved fitness levels at the gym
  • shiny glossy hair
  • good clear skin
  • general quality of life improving daily
  • strutting around with an "air" of confidence
  • feeling constantly energized - a whole new me!
As usual it got me thinking about this life-style change and how good I feel, not having any processed food, BREAD (bread Queen Deluxe here!), sunflower oil, crisps, samosas, pies,...etc for the past 108 days and this makes me proud, that I'm conquering an addiction, that of an emotional eater which has led me to so many stages and playing fields of a few life-style illnesses and I'm hoping never to go back there again!

I have realized that in order to succeed, I had to plant the seeds of optimism in the early stages - the bigger picture- kind of effect.  This not only holds true for my journey, but all aspects of life in general.  It is a positive mindset that will ensure success.  Every success story is built on an idea and a vision - mine was to attempt to lose weight so that my body could fight off the illnesses that have bound me for so many years.  That said, it is determination and a commitment to succeed right from the outset that spells ultimate success in every walk of life. Currently I have a ferocious appetite to get to a stage where I am medically fit!

So, my message is simple : Stay positive, always see the glass as half full!

If you can dream it, you can and will achieve it!

  1. It's so easy to miss the changes that are happening because we live with our body the whole day. Well done!
